Writing and Reporting

Scott has amassed hundreds of writing credits in a wide variety of print and electronic media platforms—from news/feature reporting, commentary, technical writing and web content to corporate communications, speechwriting and commercial copy.

His by-lines have appeared in dozens of newspapers, magazines, business publications and websites, including ThisWeekCBS Local Wired, The Delaware Gazette and The Columbus Messenger. His column, Keeping Score, has run in over 50 publications. In addition, Scott's newswriting, reporting and on-air skills have been utilized by WLVQ-FM-96 radio, Westwood One Networks and WBNS-10TV

Editing Work and Freelance Business

Scott's editing experience includes an array of both media and business publications. He began his editing career as a sports editor and columnist for Hurt Publications--a chain of 14 weekly broadsheets. He then moved on to The Dispatch Company--where he served as a publications editor at ThisWeek. During his tenure with Hurt/ThisWeek, Cavanagh was editor of Northland ThisWeek, The Grove City Record, and The Worthington News. He also served as a sports editor, overseeing production of the sports sections of 11 weekly papers.

Scott established his freelance company, Midland Avenue Communications, in 1997 and has developed an extensive and diverse client list. He has worked as a publications editor for The Longaberger Company, as a marketing specialist for Hewlett-Packard and Compuware Corporation and as a web designer for and WiseEdge Solutions/DKW Multimedia. His non-profit experience includes work as communications director for The Wildlife Legislative Fund of America, The Wildlife Conservation Fund and The Ohio Credit Union League. He has also served on the board of trustees of The Darby Creek Association.

Scott was the co-creator and managing editor of and is the editor and publisher of Bark Back News—an online news and commentary magazine featuring original material from a number of accomplished writers and professionals. 


Scott Cavanagh's photos have accompanied news and sports articles in dozens of daily and weekly newspapers. His corporate and marketing work has been featured in small business publications and corporate annuals.
