Scott Cavanagh is a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in nearly 100 publications. Cavanagh is president of Midland Avenue Communications—a freelance writing and media solutions company, founded in 1997. MAC provides high quality writing, editing, photography, reporting, research and proofreading services.
Cavanagh’s writing credits encompass over 1,000 articles and columns appearing in newspapers, magazines, trade publications and websites including ThisWeek Newspapers, The Columbus Dispatch, The Historian, Wired.net, The Delaware Gazette, Curiosity for Kids and The Columbus Messenger. In addition, Cavanagh's newswriting, reporting and on-air skills have been utilized by WLVQ-FM-96 radio, Metro News and Traffic Inc. and WBNS-10TV. His sports photography work has included Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, NCAA basketball and the PGA Tour.

Based in Columbus, Ohio, Cavanagh is a native of New York City, and a graduate of Otterbein College, where he served as editor of the student newspaper, Tan and Cardinal.
Cavanagh’s first editing position was with Hurt Publications, where he worked as a sports editor and columnist for the chain of 14 weekly broadsheets. His column, Keeping Score, ran weekly in Hurt Publications and continued throughout his time with The Dispatch Company—where he served as a publications editor at ThisWeek. During his tenure with Hurt/ThisWeek, Cavanagh served as editor-in-charge of Northland ThisWeek, The Grove City Record, The Grove City /SW/ThisWeek and The Worthington News.
Cavanagh's freelance business and non-profit work is extensive and diverse. He has worked as a publications editor for the Longaberger Company; as a marketing specialist for Allen Publications and Compuware Corporation; and as a web designer for Bostonia Staffing and WiseEdge Solutions. His non-profit experience includes work as communications director for the Wildlife Legislative Fund of America, The Wildlife Conservation Fund and The Ohio Credit Union League. He has served on the board of trustees of the Darby Creek Association and designed marketing materials and strategy for The Ohio Troopers Coalition and Raymond Peterson International.
